The Teaching Strategies

There are a variety of teaching strategies used including:

	Discussion
	Sharing ideas
	Activity orientated lessons
	Working in Paris, in groups, alone
	Extensive drill of exercises such as phonics, mathematical tables, selling
	Projects to encourage research skills
	Different forms of writing such as creative, descriptive, letters

In the junior primary classes the phonics approach is being used to teach language and this will be built on in the higher classes. Key skills and competencies have been identified for each class level and teaching will be around ensuring students reach these levels by the end of the academic year. In an English medium school it is essential that a student becomes fluent in English in the early primary years. It is very difficult to achieve this if a student is not encouraged to use English outside of the school environment. Parents need to ensure that some English is used in the home.
